Professor Jonathan Howard pointed out on Twitter that this statistic was being cited by self proclaimed “medical conservatives.”
So, I looked up Professor Don Boudreaux — because who would ever make a statement like this? What kind of person thinks of human lives purely in terms of relative risk? Certainly not a physician who has ever worked with children. But if not a physician or scientist making this kind of assessment, in what field is Donald Boudreaux a professor?
Economics, of course.
Not only of economics, but more specifically, at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University.
Why do I say that?
Because the Mercatus Center is an Austrian economics based libertarian think tank funded by “100% private donors.” I mean, he is a Senior Fellow with the F.A Hayek Program for or Advanced Study in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and Chair for the Study of Free Market Capitalism, which basically tells you everything you need to know in these titles alone.
