Update: on September 30th, AB2098 was signed into law by Governor Newsom!

I’m incredibly grateful to see California bill AB2098 pass both the Assembly and the Senate.

California bill AB2098

Of note, this was supported by both the California chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (CalACEP) and the California Medical Association (CMA), with vocal advocacy from us at No License for Disinformation (NLFD) and our executive director, Nicolas Sawyer, MD, MBA, who helped introduce the legislation and testified in front of the California legislature.

Here he is speaking at the Capitol in favor of AB2098, and emphasizing why passing such a bill is critically important so that the Medical Board of California can hold physicians who spread disinformation accountable.

Nick and I had the opportunity to discuss the harm of licensed doctors spreading COVID disinformation with evelyn douek and Quinta Jurecic on the Lawfare Podcast. The episode came out great. I hope you’ll give it a listen.
